God Moves in the Prison – Santa Rosa de Copán

Last week we had the blessing to receive a team from Shelton FBC here in Honduras. It was a full and beautiful week of ministry: visiting schools, building a church, and sharing the Gospel in different places.

But today, I want to share one powerful testimony from the prison in Santa Rosa de Copán.

This prison is very different. It is a hard place… a rough environment where you can feel the weight of broken lives. But even there, God is moving. Pastor Selvin Vega has been faithfully serving in this place, sharing the message of Jesus with the prisoners.

During our visit, Pastor James was going to baptize 12 prisoners. One of them was a woman who had to be guarded by a female police officer the entire time. These men and women had already received teachings about baptism before this special day.

When the moment came, Pastor James stepped into the “pila” to baptize them. This “pila” is not a baptistry—it is a place used to store water and wash clothes. But that day, it became a place of new life.

One by one, the 12 prisoners were baptized.

When everything was finished, and Pastor James was about to step out… something happened. It was not planned. It was not on the schedule. It was the Holy Spirit.

Another prisoner said, “I want to be baptized.”

Pastor James went back into the water.

And then another came.

And another.

And another.

Seven more prisoners made the decision to be baptized that same moment.

You can see on their faces that life has not been easy; tattoos from gangs, scars from the past, stories of pain. But God is powerful. God is sovereign. And His mercy reaches every heart.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Glory to God for what He is doing!

Please pray for these men and women. They are just beginning their new life in Christ. Pray that they stay strong, grow in faith, and become a light even inside the prison.
