Pastor Carlos Zúniga is a living testimony of the transforming power of the Gospel. Today, he serves as a church planter and evangelist in the mountains of western Honduras, dedicating his life to preaching Christ in rural communities, prisons, and places where many people have never heard the Gospel. But his story did not begin in a church. It began in pain, violence, and life on the streets.

When Carlos was only six years old, his father was murdered. That tragedy deeply marked his life and led him to grow up on the streets of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. From a very young age, he became involved in alcohol, drugs, weapons, and gangs. Hatred and the desire for revenge filled his heart as he searched for belonging and survival in a violent world. For many years he lived trapped in darkness, stealing and living in the streets, without knowing that God had a completely different purpose for his life.

At the age of 18, Carlos was arrested and sent to prison because of gang involvement. But it was there that God began to change his life. The very first night he entered prison, a police officer spoke to him about Jesus Christ for the first time. In the middle of fear, chains, and hopelessness, Carlos gave his life to the Lord. He still says, “That was the most beautiful day of my life.”

During those years, Honduras was going through a very violent time against gangs, and the prisons were extremely dangerous places. Carlos suffered terrible beatings that left him with broken ribs, broken fingers, and injuries to his back. Humanly speaking, it seemed impossible for him to survive, but God had other plans. Only two months after arriving in prison, the Lord began to awaken a calling to preach inside of him. Carlos started preaching to other prisoners even when they insulted him, threatened him, and even held knives to his throat, telling him they would kill him if he continued talking about Christ.

Instead of giving up, Carlos began to seek God more deeply. In prison, he made a promise to the Lord that if God allowed him to leave prison alive, he would dedicate the rest of his life to serving Him and preaching the Gospel. After two years in prison, God opened the doors for his release. Carlos left prison completely transformed by the grace of God, was baptized, and began ministry training under the supervision of missionary Víctor Almendarez.

More than 25 years later, Carlos has never stopped preaching. Today, he serves full-time with Western Honduras Ministries, planting churches in the poorest and most remote mountain communities of Honduras, discipling new believers, and bringing hope to forgotten places. He also continues ministering in prisons, sharing with inmates the same Gospel that once changed his own life.

Pastor Carlos Zúniga’s story is a powerful reminder that no one is too far from the grace of God. Christ is still transforming lives, calling workers into ministry, and bringing light into the darkest places. Today, Carlos faithfully serves alongside his wife and three children, trusting God to provide for every need as they continue making Christ known in Honduras.
